Diving On Sri Lanka's South Coast

Unawatuna - Galle

(Open Daily: 15. October To 10. April, 8 Am To 7 Pm, rest of the year closed because of south west monsoon)

When is Sri Lanka Diving Season?

From mid April onwards the diving on the west- and south coast is influenced by the south west monsoon. The sea is mostly rough, the current can be very strong and the underwater vision can be considerably less than 3 m.

Due to these conditions our UNAWATUNA DIVING CENTRE is closed from the mid of April to the mid of October. Usually the south-west monsoon blows continuously from the south-west and carries more humid air from the Indian continent. Sometimes there are strong winds and rain but on average never longer than an hour or two. Daily sunshine is even during the monsoon period 8 hours a day. Day temperatures are around 30 to 32 Celsius and night temperatures 26 to 28 Grad Celsius. Water temperature is the whole between 28 to 30 Celsius.

Bathing and swimming however is possible during the whole year due to the reefs protecting Unawatuna Beach and the Mihiripenna/Dalawella Beach from high waves.

Our NILAVELI DIVING CENTRE on the untouched north-east coast Sri Lanka's is open the WHOLE YEAR ROUND!!. Please be informed that from mid November to mid February there can be restricted Dive & Snorkel Conditions because of the north east monsoon with strong wind, high waves and haevy rain showers.

Please call us at this time at our NILAVELI DIVING CENTRE to request the current weather & sea conditions to avoid any disappointment.
